October 8, 2023: “We at Network of Evangelicals for the Middle East (NEME) are deeply grieved by the unprecedented crisis unfolding in Israel and Palestine over the past days. We condemn all acts of terrorism and violence, especially against civilians. As of the second day of the war, more than 1,000 Israelis and Palestinians have been killed with thousands more injured. We abhor Hamas’ taking of Israeli civilians as hostages and are deeply concerned about the statements from Israeli government officials stating that there will be an “unprecedented response,” which only promises more violence and devastation upon the more than two million civilians living in Gaza. Violence begets violence. NEME believes for any lasting peace to be truly achieved core causes of the conflict must be addressed including the legitimate cause of the Palestinian people in seeking an end to the decades-long occupation and the blockade of the Gaza Strip. We grieve alongside all Israeli and Palestinian families who have lost loved ones and invite you to join us in lament, prayer, and thoughtful response/action for this situation.  We will be sharing more soon.”
